No explanation was given beyond saying that she mi<under-to<>d herself. She was then in the early twenties, beautiful and accomplished. S]ie died in 1 >!'7. Lord Haldane paid her a touching tribute in his recently-published autobiography. Lady Horner, recalling the incident. mention-- that Lord Haldane found consolation in increased concentration on hi- work.
