STEADY POLLING.

THE POWER BOARD LOAN.

PROPOSAL TO RAISE £675,000.

RESULT TO BE BROADCAST

Steady polling was the order throughout this morning and afternoon at the various booths in the Auckland Electric Power Board's area, where ratepayers were voting on the board's loan proposal for £675,000. Sanction for the raising of the money is being sought in order that reticulation might be extended and strengthened, and that provision might be made for proposed tramway extensions.

The poll will close at 6 p.m. and the result of the voting should be known before seven o'clock. Arrangements have been made to broadcast information as to whether the loan has been carried. A three-fifthe majority is required to carry the proposal.

Seventy-seven polling booths have been provided, the prinicipal city booths being situated at the Town Hall, Chamber of Commerce, the Power Board offices in Quay Street and Welleeley Street, and at the Leys Institute. Polling places are also located at various points in the Newmarket, Mount Eden, Mount Albert, Mount Roskill, One Tree Hill, Ellerslie, Onehunga, Howick, Mount Wellington, Panmure, Otahuhu, Papatoetoe and Papakura districts and Manukau County.

AN EXPLANATION. In a letter that unfortunately did not reach us till this morning, Mr. A. G. Lunn refers to remarks made at the annual meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce concerning the Auckland Power Board. Mr. Lunn wishes to explain* that "no suggestion waa made that the administration was anything but efficient and economical." The point was raised that the erection of the board's building in Queen Street was not justified, but "if our criticism is conlined to this point it does not reflect on the administration of the board in the past, which administration is generally regarded as having been efficient and economical."
