EDUCATIONAL FILMS.
AUCKLAND BOARD APPROACHED. RIVAL APPLICATION'S. Rival applicants have approached the Auckland Education Board with proposals to establish a film service in the Rchools of the Auckland district. The board decided this morning to arrange for a demonstration before making a decision. Information that the Wellington and Canterbury Education Boards had granted permission for the screening of suitable films before school children in their districts was received from Mr. H. (J. Hill, managing director of the Educational Film Service, Wellington. Mr. Hill stated he had secured a permit for the use of a portable cinematograph to enable him to screen educational filme in school buildings where suitable rooms were available, or in halls in close proximity to schools which had no provision for cinematograph machines. He asked the Auckland Board to approve of the Wellington and Canterbury arrangements being made in the Auckland district.
An offer to provide the board with a small machine at a cost of £80 wan made bv an Auckland firm.
Both offers were referred to the executive for a demonstration to be made.
