CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING. The usual meeting of the Council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday. the president, Mr. H. T. Merritt in the chair. The president, having formally welcomed new members of the council, moved the appointment ot various «nb-com-mitteee. Theee appointments were confirmed. On the question of Bank holidays the Council of the Associated Chambers of Commerce asked for an expression of opinion a* to what holidays should be observed, and the matter wae referred to the Parliamentary Committee for consideration and report. In connection with the commission that is to sit in Auckland to consider the working of the caeh order svstem. Mr. J. R. Rendell urged that the chamber should give evidence againet the syetem. Thie matter was referred to the Imporfcere' Committee. The president reported on a proposal that had been made that the cou-neil should contribute towards the funda tor issuing a booklet advertising Auckland City and Province, and also epoueor the publication. He said finance was the problem, ae most of the chamber's revenue wae earmarked for a building fund. Mr. Eady eaid the City Council had promised to give £500, the Power Board £250, and other bodies had promised various amount*. He said that it the chamber, ae the parent commercial institution of the city, wae not prepared, to father <the scheme and make some dona* tion it would be perhaps best to abandon the project. After a. lengthy diecueeion a resolution was carried that the chamber will contribute such sum not exceeding £100, as may be required, to make up the coet of the booklet, after other subscription* had been utilised; ako that authority be given for a statement that the booklet k being iesoed under the aegis of th« Auckland Chamber of Commerce. •"
