MANUKAU COUNTY.

MEETING OF COUNCIL

A meeting of the Manukau County Council was held yesterday, there be ; present Messrs. F. M. Waters (chairman), S. W. House. J. Luke. L. Gilbertson. C. S. McCallum, J. K. Dickson and F. Kearsley. Bridge «t Takanini.—The engineer, Mr. J. R. Page, reported that plans had" been prepared for a wooden bridge over the Takanini stream, (ire.it South Road and. as soon as they were approved by the Highways Board, tenders would be called so as to get this work done before the winter set in.

Tamaki Bridge.—The council voted £40 towards the cost of coating with bitumen the surface of the bridge at Tamaki. It was reported that Otahuhu was contributing a larger sum than formerly stated and it was expected a subsidy of £200 would be granted by the Highways Board. Wairoa Road.—Mr. Kearsley reported that residents at the farther end of Wairoa Road had raised £150 and hoped to make the total up to £200, when subsidies would be asked towards the cost of inuking the road.

1 apakura Stream.—Plans and opacifications tor the bridge at Papakura Stream, Great South Road, have been forwarded to Wellington and when approved, tenders will be called for the work. Mangere Water Supply.—The engineer reported that the bore for water at Mangere was still in a water-bearing strata ot hard blue rock, and the inflow was steadily increasing.

Building Permits.-The building permits issued during the month totalled up to an estimated value of £12,995, of which £8/32 was for Mangere riding and £2453 for Papatoetoe ridinjr.
