TROTTING.

WELLINGTON MEETING. TO-MORROW'S PROGRAMME. SMART PERFORMERS ENGAGED. The one-day summer meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club will be held at Hutt Park to-morrow, and though the acceptances in several events are not very large, those engaged in the best races are all proved performers, and there is every prospect of fine pacing and trotting. The meeting will be of more than usual interest to Aucklanders, as many of those racing to-morrow are booked to come on north for the Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting, which opens to-morrow week. The Trial. As usual in Trial Handicaps the opening event bears a very open appearance, and as nothing appears to stand out as having a particularly bright chance, the betting is likely to take a wide range. The majority of those engaged have shown glimpses of form which predict better things. Rafa has been well backed on more than one occasion, and perhaps this pacer will be supported again. Gang Awa is said to be a good sort, and is a winner, while El Direct is also a winner. It is a very open race, but there may be backing for EL DIRECT RAFA GANG AWA. Select Trot. Only seven have been accepted for in the Select Trotters' Handicap, which is run over a journey of a mile and a half. All in the race are fine trotters, but the most solid of the seven is Tiger Salve. This gelding is a great beginner, and does not make mistakes, and at twelve furlongs he should set a merry pace. Happy Rosa is smart, and has gone better than 3.25 for the distance, but Napland, although a fast trotter, is not always reliable. Sister Beatrice, Kempton. Trampfast, and Elzear are all good, but they are giving substantial starts. It looks as though the favourites will be TIGER SALVE HAPPY ROSA SISTER BEATRICE. Champion Handicap. Another small but select field will contest the Champion Handicap, and at a mile and a-half the pace will be on all the way. Jean MrElwyn is a brilliant mare over a mile, and will take some heading off. Epigram is another with a heap of speed, but Jackie Audubon would have to improve on anything he has done lately to win. At his best he is good, and he must have satisfied his trainer otherwise he would not be there. Padlock can turn on a torrent of speed, and Logan Park has racing so consistently that he cannot possibly be left out of calculations. Logan Chief is good when at his best, and Ahuriri is one of the cracks of the Dominion. It should be a great betting race, and the money may be found on LOGAN PARK PADLOCK JEAN McELWYN. Waiwetu Handicap. There, will be a good field in the Waiwetu Handicap, in which Auckland is represented by Nelson Dillon. This gelding has shown speed, but he will be meeting others who have been winning, and the race is not going to be an easy one. Halmore won at the last Wellington fixture, and off the limit to-morrow must be given a great chance. Red Rey has been racing without luck, and several times he has filled a place. Richore was a winner at the recent Nelson meeting. Rose Marie has been showing good form, and so have several others in the race. Backers will be there to bet, and perhaps the windup will find solid support accorded to

KED REV XELSOX DILLON* GREAT LOGAX. Taita Novice. In a race of this description there are all the possibilities of a surprise as the winner invariably knocks many seconds off the handicap. The majority of those in the race are engaged earlier in the day in the Trial, and the running then will no doubt decide the favourite for the Novice. Three who may find favour are RAFA EL DIRECT DRIFT WAVE. Armstrong Handicap. With the same trotters in the ArmStrong Handicap as figure in the Select Trot earlier in the day. it is difficult to sum up the prospects aa the form shown in the Select Trot will decide backers in making their investments. Whatever fills second place in the Select Trot should be the favourite in the Armstrong, as he will miss a penalty. Palmer Handicap. In this race again there is a field similar to that in the Champion Handicap, and again the placed horses in the latter event should be worthy of support. The distance is ten furlongs, and off the front Audacious, although beaten lately, should be hard to dispose of. Black Admiral would go well were it not that he is liable to leave his feet. Summed up it may be that backers cannot do better than be on what finished second in the Champion Handicap earlier in the afternoon. Au Revoir Handicap. The sport closes with the Au Revoir Handicap, and once more those in the race will have been seen out earlier. However, this time the journey extends to two miles. This should suit* STAR LADY GREAT LOGAX ROSE MARIE. The following are the acceptances: TRIAL HANDICAP of 200sovs. One mile and a-half. (Limit 3.40.) Ambleslcle . . Lt. Rafa t t Gang Awa . . Lt.
