BRIGHTER PROSPECTS.

BUSINESS IN ENGLAND.

DOMINION TRADE WANTED.

OPINIONS OF AN AUCKLANDER.

"Everywhere I went I Heard striking tributes to New Zealand, and there is not the slightest doubt that this country is being put on the map commercially," said Air. C. Muskett, or Auckland, who returned from Southampton by the lonic. "Whilst at Home I took the opportunity of going through some of the largest manufacturing firms in England. Some of their orders from overseas are tremendous. Yet one firm's general manager as-

sured me that his company was just as pleased to receive the smallest order from New Zealand houses. The discussion had centred round comparative orders and I had pointed out to him that on account of the smallness of the

One fact which contributed to this state of affairs, which, by the way, was not an isolated instance, .was the advent of New Zealand into the war. The behaviour of our men in England has not been forgotten. "Going through these great productive works I found that there was an excellent spirit between employer and employee," continued Mr. Muskett. "Increased business was noticed and the general tone was better. There is no doubt that things are looking up in the Midlands counties and Yorkshire. On the Tyneside there is still depression, especially in the coal and shipping areas, but even here business appeared to be looking up when I left Home. Politically the people of the Homeland appear to be easy minded, but there were indications that there would be a change at the next elections. Up till quite recently it looked as if the Conservatives would have another run. but when I left it did not appear as if they would go back with a working majority. I repeat, however, economically there is a feeling of optimism throughout the Old Country and this naturally will be refleeted elsewhere throughout the Empire."
