TAURANGA NOTES.

Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Cook returned on Thursday from a month's holiday visit to Wellington, where they went to attend the golden wedding celebrations of Sir Frederick and Lady Chapman.

Surgeon-Commander Chater left for Auckland last Saturday after paying a brief visit to his sister, Mrs. Mayfleld, at "Hawkbridge."

Mrs. Phillips, who resided in Tauranga many years ago, is at present staying with Mrs. E. T. Baker. '

Colonel Colan, a well-known big-game fisherman, is at present staying at the Commercial Hotel. He is accompanied by Miss Colan, and intends fishing at Mayor Island.

Dr. and Mrs. Williams motored through from Wellington last Sunday, and are staying with Mrs. Mayfield. Mr. Gerald Harden, of East Grimetead Sussex, is a gue st of Mrs. Titterton, at Te Puna.

Brilliant flood lights illuminated the grounds, and Chinese lanterns among the trees and shrubs gave a fairy-Jike appearance to the whole acene. Most of the dancers were in fancy dress, and all wore carnival hats and masks. The Town Band rendered items during the evening, and Mr. McSbane, at the piano, provided most of the music for the dances. Supper was served in the pavilion, and ices were dispensed during the evening from a charming little leafy bower. Among those dancing on the lawns were: Miei

Miss Dorothy Wills, Quartier-Latin; Miss Mayfleld, bluebell; Mies Bonnie Bent, sailor. Others noticed were: Mesdames Corrigan, Baigent, C. H. Jordan, Bruce, Beale, Renshaw and Bain.

On Wednesday evening Mrs. Wills gave a bridge party in honour of Mrs. Williams (Wellington). The drawing room was gay with scarlet geraniuds and blue hydrangeas, and the supper table was massed with red roses. Mrs. Wills received her guests in a black georgette frock, trimmed with rhinestones, and Miss Dorothy Wills wore pink georgette. Mrs. Williams looked charming in mauve crepe d e chiife with insets of violet georgette. Among the guests were Mrs. Mayfield, Mrs, Sanders, Mrs. Tovey (Samoa), Mrs. Ivory, Mrs. R. Baigent, Mrs. Broad, Mrs. Bain, Mrs. Tudhope, Misses Mason and Mr. Broad.

Mr. and Mrs. A. Burra, with their two sons, leave on Friday for England, where they are taking up their residence while their children are at school.

Miss Kathlyn Baker returned on Sunday from a pleasant holiday visit to Hamilton, where she was the euest of Mrs. J. D. Smith.

Mrs. Tovey, who returned from Samoa recently, i s staying with Mrs. Sanders. Miss S. Mayfield has returned from a holiday visit to Wellington.
