SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Miss Peggy Stewart, lady champion of the Pukeroa Tennis Club, was guest of honour at a night tennis party given by the club at the Clive Road courts last evening. Mies Stewart leaves Auckland shortly to reside in Wellington and a large number of friends gathered to say farewell to the popular member. Tennis and dancing were indulged in to the fullest extent and at the close of the evening supper was served in the pavilion, during which interval Mr. Gordon Hardy, president of the club, conveyed to Miss Stewart the good wishes of the members generally. Three hearty cheers were given for Miss Stewart, who suitably replied. The supper room was decorated in the club colours, red and black. Among the ladies present were: Mrs. Gordon Hardy, Mrs. M. Henry, Mrs. Ingram, Mrs. Barrett, Mrs. Annan, Miss Pe ggy Stewart, Miss Ray Brewin, Miss M. Finch, Miss Warner, Miss Morrison, Miss K. The Parnell Tea Kiosk was the scene of a merry party last evening, when a farewell dance was given to Mias Edna Taylor, who is shortly leaving Auckland to join her parents, who have taken up their residence in Perth, Western Australia. A frock of pastel primrose georgette, with scalloped hem, was worn by Miss Taylor. Among those who were present were: Mrs. L. S. Piper, who wore a frock of amethyst georgette; Mrs. F. C. • • • • Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Watte, of Maungawhau Road, gave a delightful dance last evening in honour of the marriage of their son, Mr. Harold Watts, and Miss Carr, which takes place next Tuesday. The Domain Kiosk was gaily festooned in multi-coloured flowers, and a floral dome was hung from the ceiling. The Somerville Hockey Club and many cricket players of the Green Lane Club, of which Mr. Watte is a prominent member, presented the happy couple with beautiful mementoes of their esteem. Mr. W. Neweham, on behalf of the former club, made a presentation of a threepiece silver coffee service. Mr. M. Johneon, speaking for the Green Lane cricketers, gave a. handsome marble clock. "For they are jolly good fellows" wag sung. The Merry Jeetere Orchestra was! in attendance. The hostess received the guests in a black georgette and panne velvet coat, beautifully embroidered in Oriental eilks and gold thread.
