ROAD THROUGH DRURY.
STRAIGHT HIGHWAY ADVOCATED. DEPUTATION* TO A.A.A. Three Drurv residents waited 011 th? Auckland Automobile Association last evening and asked for the support of the council in their efforts to have eliminated dangerous bends near tlie township. They brought a petition of 200 signatures to support their appeal. They suggested a. straight route for the concrete section, which is proposed by the Franklin County Council. "The straight road will not' pass the hotel, but if a gentleman wants a drink ho will go a mile to get it," said a lady member of the deputation. "There should be no sentiment regarding tlie few shops 011 the Great South Road," she said.
On the grounds of safety, it was suggested that tlie direct route would mean that the main highway would be away from tlie school, an alteration which was very desirable.
Mr. A. Grayson, the president, said that either the straight road or the other alternative, with easy bends and good visibility, should meet motorists' requirements. He thought the association should not take sides.
The matter was referred to the roads and service committee.
