PROHIBITED MAN IN WAIHI,

WARNING BY MAGISTRATE

Charged in t lie Magistrates' Court yesterday afternoon with a breach of his prohibition order, William (ilasgow denied the allegation that ho had taken any liquor on the day in question. He stated he had spent the who!'? of the morning painting birdcages, and that in the process he had used methylated spirits, some of which had got on his clothing. On previous occasions when charged by the police, defendant stated he had freely admitted the offence, but on th:s occasion ho had taken no liquor, hence his plea of not guilty. Constable Welch said he accosted defendant standing outside a hotel under the influence of liquor. Defendarjt became abusive and threatened to '"take a piece out of him." George Chalker said that judging by the way defendant abused the constable, he thought he had taken a few drinks. Tne magistrate (Mr. W. F. l'latts, S.M.), in convicting Glasgow, and ordering him to pay costs, warned him that he was heading for destruction, and would finish at Rotoroa Island if he did not take a turn.
