(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday.
An explanation of the attitude of the Government toward the cash on delivery system in operation in tho Post Office was given by Mr. Fred Lye, M.P., at a meeting of the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Lye said he was one of a comjnittee of 21 appointed by the party before the election to draw up the policy to be followed. While.it was impossibleto incorporate every plank in a policy, which in only a general system of measures, the conference gave a sympathetic hearing to Mr. Lye, when he advocated the abolition of the C.O.D. system and agreed that the P. and T. ".Department should not be the instrument of Fo unfair a trading system. An assurance was given that the party would, if given an opportunity, tight to have the scheme abolished.
Mr. Lye added that there was a move among brunches of tlio Farmers' Union to have the. system continued, and the organisation liad commented against its iihulitiuii. He could hardly understand this attitude. Jfe felt sun- that steps would bo taken in the near future to prevent a continuation of the C.O.D. system.
