OHINEMURI COUNTY.
IMPROVEMENT OF HIGHWAYS. There was a full attendance of members at the monthly meetinp of the Ohinemuri County Council. Mr. H. M. Corbett presided. Considerable discussion took plane concerninjj the bad state of the Paeroii-Hiku-taia main highway, several councillors wanting to know why n-pnlre. The chairman stated that tenders fnr the work would be called, and submitted within a week, and the undertaking put in hand forthwith. Mr. Morris drew attention to complaints of the unsuitable buildings and insanitary conditions of the county abattoir. The chairman said the abattoir had ceased tr. be of any benefit to the county. It was only a matter of time when the Paeroa Koroujrh Council would have to maintain its own abattoir. Butchers and others with complaints should communicate direct with the council. The council agreed to the work being carried out. provided the consent of the Hauraki Plains Countv Council was secured. Notification was received from the Public Works Department that the Farakiwai Bridge was ready for traffic, and as it connected the Thames and Ohinemuri counties the Department wanted to know which council would control the bridge. The council accepted control. The council decided to support the Tan ran pa County Councils resolution urging the Government to pass lepislation making a direct levy on motor users fo r the maintenance of main roads.
