LOCAL BODIES.
NEW LYNN. An ordinary meeting of the Xew Lynn Town Board was held last evening, Mr. W. L. Titehener (chairman) presided. Postal Services. —The chairman reported that he had interviewed the Postmaster General re the district telephone i*ervices, and the erection of a modern post office 0:1 the site purchased by the Department on ToddV Avenue many yeans ago. There was reason to believe thai a new post office would be erected in the -near future, and that the request for exu-'ided hours in the telephone service would be acceded to. Appreciation.—On the motion or Mr. Woodcock, the board derided to place ou record it«s appreciation of the chairman"* services in relation to the transport question. Traffic. —The inspector reported on having issued 60 driver's licensee, also having arrived at an agreement with the Auckland City Council re the control of traffic on the Whau Bridge at week-ends and holiday.-. The Papakuia Town Board met on Monday evening, the chairman (Mr. Jas. McCall)' presiding. Drainage from Factory.—A petition was received from resident* living near the drain that- carries the effluent from the creamery at Papakura. down to the Channel at Rocky Point. The petition stated that the smell was a bad nuisance, and insisted that action should be taken t-o deal_ with it. The following motion was carried: "'That the directors of the factory he notified that the board insist on an efficient method of draining to deal with the effluent from factorv."
Fire Brigade.—The chairman of the Fire Brigade Management Committee (Mr. H. K. McEntee). reported that the committee had met during the interval from the last board meeting, and had decided to increase the insurance, eo that if a fireman has an accident he will receive about £3 per -week -instead of 3<)'. as at present. Fire pay amounting to 30' wae authorised from Mr. A. Milliken's fire in Settlement. Road.
Proeresw of Works.—The footpath ha? been finished from Duke Street to Cook Street on the southern side. A footpath has been formed and metal waet-e hae been placed on (in Elliott Street). The drain in Wairoa Road has been graded from the intake in Wallis' paddock to Grove Road, and 20 feet of 18in pipes have been laid acroen the road.
Do>: Registrar.—The board decided to accept, the tender of Mr. W. C'or:iford for the position of doc registrar for the Papakura Town Board.
