J-lipo was second to Vertijreni in the Paul Memorial, one mile and a-quarter at New Plymouth on Saturday, while of the others Vigilance and Borrialene may he the best. JVrhaps. the bc.-t backed will be

MEN DIP , ffll'o KEDDAR. The Jumpers. In the West mere Hurdles Glengariff, ■who won the hurdles at New Plymouth last Saturday, has been raised to 11.7, and that may be a little beyond him. Atareria won on the second day of the Kgmont meeting with 10.4 and has now 10.10, Inll should run well. Diana's Lad showed considerable ability over hurdles earlier in the season and scored at the Manawatu summer meeting. Royal Acre was unlucky at Egmont and won on the first day of the Taranaki meeting, but again met with bad luck on the second day, being beaten by a nose when lie had the race won. Elicit has shown form over hurdles this season, while of the others Vexatious and Bonhomme have form to commend them. The chief fancies mav be

ROYAL ACRE DfAXA'S LAD ELICIT. The Victory Handicap. Cashier, \v)i(» heads the handicap for the Vitcory Hack, raced well in the spring, but disappointed when he came up for the Auckland summer meeting. He lihs not raced since, but if at his best phould take a lot of beating. Roi de Val has improved considerably lately and annexed the Melrose Handicap, seven furlongs, at Wellington. He looks as though he will stay over a longer distance. Mistor (lamp was second in a mile event at Trentham last month, while Kawhakina occupied a biniilar position to Calamine over eight and a-half furlongs at Egmont. The Warden was good in the spring, but is an unlikely starter. Gasnapper scored nicely at New Plymouth on Saturday, while of the others Onward may carry most tickets. The favourite division Bay be.

CASHIER fIASX APPF.R ROI DE YAL. The Chief Event. Only half a dozen remain in the Wanganui Cup. and Laughing Prince has been awarded '.).'>. Even with this weight h].i victories in the Canterbury Cup, Stead Memorial Cold Cup and Mitchel.-ton Cup, and his second in the Auckland Cup will ensure him plenty of friends. Rapine is reported to be coming back to form, and if approaching his best should be difficult to dispose of. Tt ia stated that h« has recovered from the effects of being galloped on at Hawera. Hynanna was twice beaten by Voma—in the Egmont Cup and the Taranaki Cup— but now Hynanna is meeting him on a little better terms. Yoma has been most consistent recently and with 8.13 is not overburdened, and he will run a great race. JJright (J low may not start. Most money may go on LAUGHING PRLVCB YOMA The Juvenile Handicap. Tn the Juvenile Handicap Glenartney lias shown a lot of pace, but has yet to win. Courtlike won the Nursery Handicap at Waijiukuraii and has been placed on other occasions. Royal Finance showed a lot of speed when brought north for the Takapuna meeting, but has failed to win in the interim. Becky Sharp and Oral ure likely to have most friends of the lighter weights. A SOUTHERN REVIEW. LAUGHING PR IXC K FAVOURED. (By Telegraph.—SpMnl to "Stnr.") WANGAXUI. this day. The autumn meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club will he held on Thursday and Saturday. A small field has accepted in the Cup, but the average number of runners for the first day's racing is just enough to make for good contests on the Wanganui track, which is not a handy one for very large fields. The track is at present firm and fast, and even with a change in the weather it will take a lot of rain to affect the going. Racing 3tarts with the Maiden. High Falutin', from the Fordell stable, has run some good races this season. He was third in the Wanganui Guineas and the Avondale Guineas in the spring, and he may be the favourite. Noselle, however, who created a very favourable impression in her only start at Fox ton, will go very well, and looks likely to be very hard to beat. Of the others Marica will probably find most friends. Joy King, who leads the list in the Stewards' Handicap, is in the Flying Handicap, as also are Keddar and Bor" salene. Joy King should run prominently if he starts. Mendip, on his recent form, will run well, and among the light-weights Vigilance looks most likely. Several freyh horses in the Westmeie Hurdles may run better than those which showed up at Egmont and Taranaki, but Royal Acre should be in the running. Glengariff always runs well at Wanganui, and Diana's Lad is a newcomer with good form. There is a lot of recent form in the Victory Hack, but that of Cashier and Roi Dβ Val is likely to attract most attention. Acred w'as unlucky at Egmont, but outside the two top-weights Kawhakina may do best. On Egmont and Taranaki Cup form Yonia, despite his rise to K.l.i, looks again likely to 'beat all he met there, but in Laughing Prince he is up against a stronger proposition than on his home circuit. Laughing Prince likes the Wanganui course, and, as he showed in the Canterbury Cup that a mile and three-quarters is not beyond him, he will be a hard horse to beat!

The form in the two-year-old race is not good, as is shown by the fact that Clenartney, who has never been in the money yet, is at the head of the list. Courtlike goes fast, but stops badly. At Wanganui. however, she should be hard to beat. In the spring she ran third in the Debutante Stakes to Speed Light. Royal Finance was unlucky at Talcapuna. Crash and Becky Sharp, from Trentham stables, both gallop well. Glenartney, Royal Finance and Crash mav do best. •

In the hack sprint, the Petre Handicap, the best form is that of White Ringlet, Mi.s.-f Ransom and HaverinL', but if Freehold is. forward he will take a Jot of beating.

Several recent winners figure in the Flying Handicap. Lady Quex is tin' favourite, ami on form her chance looks good. Vast Acre and Lysander are a likely pair.
