NEGLIGENT DRIVING.

CHARGE AGAINST MOTORIST,

Richard Henwood appeared beforc Mr. P. H. Levies, S.M., at- the Otahalm Police Court to answer four charge* of driving a motor ear in m negligent manner, driving a motor- ear without i driver's license, failing to notify the * >olice of the aeeident in which he wae nvolrcd, and failing to render assist wee to the injured persons.

After hearing evidence the maghv trato said there was only one eonehi* sion to come to, that the accused did not know how to drive the ear. For failing to render assistance Henwood was fined £15 and costs; for negligent driving he was convicted and fined £5 and costs; for failing to notify the police he was fined £1 and costs, and for driving without a licence he waa convicted and ordered to pay costs 10/.

At a meeting of the Mount Roak't! Road Board last evening Mr- G. E. Tansley brought up the matter of the long grass on some of the side loads in the district. It was in good cooditkra at presentfi being in many places three to four feet high, but in a few weeks it might be dry enough to introduce danger from fire.
