RUSSELL, this day. Mr. A. Fenwick, of Kenya, Colony," attracted to New Zealand by the accounts of wonderful fishing, had his first experience of the thrills of deep-sea angling to-day by landing two mako*. He wm fishing from tbe launch Otefaci off Cape Brett when he landed the two fish, one of which weighed 2161b and the other 1911b. The smaller fish of the two gave aa excellent display of its fighting qualities during the 40 minutes it took to bring it alongside the launch to ha harpooned.

This is the first time Mr. Fenwick has indulged in deep-sea angling, and ho intends spending about ten days en the fishing grounds. He is greatly Impressed with the beauty of the Hay of Islands, and the scenery he describes as magnificent. ' w

Lieutenant Commander OlCaJlaghaa, D.5.0., had a day among the big fish at Mayor Island. He played two fine atalco sharks for a considerable time before • they got free.
