TROTTING.

WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

It is some time since Battery Belle raced, and this trotter must now be getting on in years. She is being worked at Epsom by H. Hedley, and it should not be long before she is seen out in a race. The three-year-old trotter Great Way is being worked at Epsom, and if the chestnut son of Peterwah would only settle down and go solid in his races he would get some easy money. There is no question about his speed, and all that is required is for him to trot solid.

C. G. Lee is keeping his good trotter Tiger Salve going steadily. The bay gelding has done exceptionally well since he was placed in the Epsom trainer's hands, and he has not only got the gelding back to his best form, but has kept him in form over many months.

G. Robertson worked The Tartar out a couple of miles at Epsom yesterday. The son of Wildwood Junior —Emmeline has shown improved manners at the start of his races since going into Robertson's hands, and though never a good stayer he is always liable to get a bit of the money.

The Auckland owners, the Messrs. McKendrick brothers, had Free Advice and Choysa racing at the Wellington meeting, but neither succeeded in gaining any of the money. Choysa has-only recently begun racing, and has shown pace, but at Wellington, when looking like getting a place, put in a tangle which settled matters.

Loch Moigh, who seems to be quite sound again, paced a fine race in the Dispatch Handicap at Wellington. Beginning fast, he led till near the win-ning-post, when Logan Park passed him. The Palmerston-owned pacer is a brilliant horse over short courses, and should soon win a race.

B. Dyer is keeping the roan gelding Glandore going, and long, steady work is the daily task of the disappointing pacer. Times out of number Glandore has registered trials good enough to win big races, but he has never proved a solid racehorse. Dyer has had him some time now, and maybe he will get the gelding to go generously.

A very nice yearling being handled by F. Gilchrist is a colt by Worthy Bond —Fancy Pointer. He is beautifully moulded and a natural pacer, and although looks are not a very reliable guide as indicating the nature of a yearling this colt has the appearance of turning out good. He will race under the name of Worthy Pointer, and is owned by Mr. F. J. Docherty.

Etta Cole is looking a picture at present, and is ready to race at any moment. Although beaten' in her engagements at the Auckland summer meeting, the daughter of Peterwah went at least two good races to get second, and judging by her appearance at present she is better now than ever. The classes at the approaching Otahuhu meeting do not altogether suit her, as she will have to concede a substantial start to the front-enders in the Introductory trots.

The Nelson-owned Red Rev put up a fine performance in the Probationers' Handicap at Wellington. He was well back in the early part, which enabled hiin to get practically clear of the smash-up, but when he set out for the leaders he was quite a hundred yards back. He went fast the last half-mile, and beat all but the winner. He is by Rey de Oro from Brown Empress, and is held on lease by N. L. Emms, of Nelson. L. F. Berkett is training him and drove him in the race. Red Rey later in the afternoon a?so ran second in the Novice Handicap.
