RELIEF SOCIETIES.

Whilst not seeking to take away praise from those due, and in no way finding fault with the remarks am undoubtedly intended for good by your correspondent in regard to the Salvation Army and Sister Esther coming to the assistance of the family in Crummer Road, distressed by reason of their house being burned together with clothing, etc, it was rather unfortunate that he should have made mention of the fact that "one particular organisation* - * refused assistance on the ground that they were closed for the holidays. It would have been better to have refrained from any thine suggesting a neglect of duty, the effect of which cannot make for good. Aa one who has subscribed to one of these societies, I am satisfied that each and every one of them is doing good, and to create any suggestion that "one* is not is showing a lack of appreciation of the efforts of all those other than the ones specified in his memo. COMPARISONS ARE ODIOUS.
