In the Magistrate's Court to-day, Thigue John Lagan, a clerk, aged 34, pleaded guilty to the theft of a postal packet containing postal notes to the value of £1 6/, and to the removal of a used stamp from a postal packet, with intent to make use of it.

The polico said the accused had been going round with a mail contractor when the offences occurred.

His counsel said the accused accompanied the contractor to fill in time, and felt the sudden temptation. He was desperately in need, being a married man with a family, and unemployed. On the first 'charge the accused was fined £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, and ordered to make restitution. On the second he was convicted and discharged.
