STRONG UNDERTOW.
GIRL'S NARROW ESCAPE. DAUGHTER OF HON. J. G. COATES. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. An exceptionally high spring tide was experienced on west coast beaches yesterday. Coasters state that it was the most treacherous ever seen. Whilst standing in water reaching to the ankles at Baviey's little Irirangi Coates, the second youngest daughter of the Hon. J. 0. Coates, was swept out on top of a wave, which suddenly swept behind her and other bathers. Mr. Coates, Dr. Crump and Mr. C. J. Malloy were standing by and promptly went to her assistance. The little girl was recovered none the worse for her adventure.
Joy Crump, the daughter of Dr. Crump, was also caught in the tide. She bowled her mother over in passing, but was caught by Master lan Rope.
