'i lm families of each bather were on the bank when suddenly a cry rent the air. Mrs. Fonte's companion screamed out that something had bitten her thigh. This was at first regarded as a joke., but as --he appeared to be greatly distressed and. was making for the bank Mr?. Fnote went to her assistance. As bhc proceeded she herself received a bite on the. ri»ht forearm. The two lost no time, in reaching the shore. An eye-witness said there was no sign -ol a ihark till after the attack, when the watellers observed a small fin cut the water and disappear. One woman received a nasty bite on the thigh. The wounds were, attended to and both are progressing favourably. The shark was evidently not a large owe. Miranda, the scene of the attack, Jβ on the shores of the Hauraki Gulf] about -midway between New Brighton and Waitakaruru. n
