PONSONBY»S FIRST DEFEAT.

COX IN GOOD FORM. The completion of the,fourth series of matches under the A.S.C.A. control at the Domain on Saturday saw Harbour Board and Victoria register outright wins against Ellerslie and Glen Eden, while Green Lane defeated Ponsonby ca the first innings. For Harbour Board a fine innings of 75 not out was played by L. Turner, who was largely responsible for the seors going to 208. The absence of fou- El-

lerslie players enabled Harbour Bo;ird to get the three-point win. Glen Eden's batting was weak, only Clarke (49) showing more than average form against the bowling of Stallworthy and Manly. Victoria, naving a lead of 90 on the first innings hit up 138 for eight and declared, and thus had a comfortable outright win by D 9 iuns. ■Ponsonby made a good start toward getting the 257 runs made the previous week by Green Lane, for Innes (70) and Cooper (34) for the fourth wicket took the score along to 150. Then Cox, who had been bowling steadil/, got in and the remainder of the batsmen were dismissed for less than 50. Cox got the fine average of eight for 57. Green Lane's second innings of 145 was notable chiefly for a bright 74 by Cox, and Green Lane won on the first innings. WHANGAREI. The first three games in the Wilding Whimp cricket competition were played in uncomfortably hot weather on Saturday. Kensington Park was the venue for a good game. Whangarei made 133 (Gash 47, McBeth 34 not out), turning the tables on Nomads, who scored 97 (E. Collins 46). For Nomads Menzies took seven wickete for 17, and for Whangarei Stevenson, Gash and Jennings took three each. Portland making 103 (Newton 30, Johnson 27), had an. easy win over Y.M.C.A., who scored 24 (Macky 13) and 44 (Macky 18). For Portland, Newton took -ten wickets for 25, and Penning eight for 35. The surprise of the day was afforded in the defeat of Hikurangi, the leading team in the championship, by Onerahi. The seasiders made 91 (Chitiy 48 and Hikurangi 87 (Ackers 23). For Hikurangi Rickard took eight wickete. HAMILTON. In the Walkato Cricket Association's senior competition on Saturday, Frankton made 143 against Old Boys. The latter replied with 139 (Hockin 41). In their second innings Frankton had lost two wickets for eight runs when stumps were drawn. In their match against Hamilton (138 for eight wickets), Hamilton East had scored 171 when stumps were drawn. WAJHI. The opening of the third round of the Ellerington Challenge Shield competition took place on Saturday, Teachers defeating Mataura by 22 runs. Scores: Teachers, 85 (E. Thomas 58).
