SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
On Friday evening Mrs. C. Clemett gave Miss Laming a kitchen tea in Ohaktine in honour of her approaching marriage. • • • • On Friday afternoon the members of tlie Anglican Ladies' Guild gathered at St. John's Hall to bid 'farewell'to Mrs. J, Cottier, who is leaving Ohakune to take up her residence hvTakaka, Nelson. The hall was tastefully decorated with delphinium* and Christmas lilies. Mrs. Todd, on behalf of the guild, presented the guest With a liattdadffle set Of StUftft crystal wine glasses and jug to match, and said that during the seven years she liad resided in Ohakune she had worked zealously in many causes. Mrs. Cottier suitably replied.
Mrs. E. E. Gillon, of Wellington, gave a morning tea party at the Tudor Rooms on Saturday, when large clusters oi blue flowers adorned the table. Mrs. dHlott wore a figured crepe de chine with Cigar brown ground and a tagel straw picture hat; Mrs. Trevithick was in ttavy blue and white foulard and a hat to ttfhe; Mrs. Marriner, black satin frock and hat with osprey; Mrs. F. Pope, green etriped silk juniper suit, green Bangkok hat; Mrs. Manson, grey and black spotted crepe de chine, black hat; Mrs. S. Caro, green and cherry striped silk jumper suit, white tagel hat* Mrs. C. Phillips, flowered crepe de chine in tones of brown and gold; Miss Jeart Marriner, floral georgette, green hat.
On Thursday Mrs. Maurice Shuttle■worth, of Kaharoa, gate a very enjoyable "Gift Afternoon" at the residence of her mother, Mrs. J. Halkett, Pukeatua Street, Rotorua, the guest of honour being Miss Clarice Smith, Who Iβ to be married shortly* The teceptlon room was gay with floral decorations of carnations and pink* hjrdfangeas. Mrs, Hal* kett's frock was of black charmeuse and georgette; Mrs. ShUttleworth wore a fiock of ivory georgette and satin} Mies Smith's frock was of figured georgette, ■with white hat. A "FtJur-legged Animal" Competition Was Wotl by Mies V. St. Clair, the booby prize beiitg Won by Miss k> Hall. During the afternoon eongs were sung by Miss K. Hall.
