RESULTS OF MYSTERY COMPETITION.

BETTY MERE'S VARIED PLIGHTS

A PAINTING COMPETITION NEXT WEEK

Dear Boys and Girls, —

The mystery »tory competition was a complete success, and very popular, as a host of entries told. Competitors gave their imagination full play, and many and varied were the solutions submitted. In some cases Betty, uncle made a miraculous recovery, in others' he passed away peacefully, and in yet another the whole story ended in tragedy, several person, having been murdered by the unscrupulous gang who were eager to obtain possession of the mysterious content, of the iron-bound box All attempts submitted were very good, the standard of the pointers being almost equal to that of the prize-winners. Kathleen Neely took the first prize for an excellent ending, but Bessie Spooner was a very close second. Sheila Quinn, one of our prominent short-story writers, wrote quite an appropriate ending to the story, and gamed the third award. Quite an unusual ending was sent in by Ronald dutcliffe, and it will no doubt be much appreciated by those lovers of deep literature with a touch of mystery which leaves the nerves tingling. Quite a good story sent in by John Creamer was spoilt by the use of too many big words. Big words do not necessarily mean a good style, although if used properly they give force to an essay. For his account of Betty's adventure, John Creamer was awarded fifth place. r. J F ° U « f xcellent »•*!*• were »»»»n«Med by Dorothy Jones, Thelma Gates. Gordon Osborne and Roy Watson.
