YESTERDAY'S WORK.

SOME INTERESTING TRIALS.

The first to appear on tlie track Yesterday was the Rowe Handicap candidate, Tiger Salve (Lee), who had Dick Dillon (Pliipps) as a companion. The pair jumped away at the two miles peg and ran the first mile in 2.13 2-5. They reached the mile and a-lialf in 3.27 1-5, and came home the last half in 1.8 2-5, making 4.35 3-5 for the two miles. Both horses went well. Tiger Salve giving his usual solid display. Peter Bingen (Adams) followed. He went a mile and a-half, being timed over two separate halves, which he ran in 1.0 1-5, and the last half in 1.5. The fastest work out of the morning went to the credit of Native Prince and Jackie Audubon. Native Prince, who was free-legged, and driven by J. Shaw, had a little over a length the best of Jackie Audubon (Julian) when they stepped away from the mile peg. The pair paced fast all the way, but Jackie Audubon, though he finished up well, could not get to Native Prince. The time was particularly good, and seeing that Native Prince was without hopples his performance was brilliant. Raima (Head) was allowed to stride along at little more than three-quarter pace for a couple of miles. Rose Bingen (Adams), who looks well, was sent two miles. She trotted without a mistake, running her last half the fastest. Talaro (Holmes) went two miles, but was not out to break any records. He gave Harvest Child several lengths start and the pair finished together, but Harvest Child did not set a very fast pace. Jack Potts (Donald) was not out after time. He paced two miles in 4.30 3-5, coming home his last mile in 2.14 4-5. Gold Jacket was sent a mile but was not timed. He appeared to go fairly fast. Lady Dunmore jumped off at the mile and a-quarter, and ran home in 2.51 1-5. She came the last mile in 2.10 4-5. Jewel Pointer stood Invader and Bingen King up a couple of lengths start in a mile and a-half, and was going easily at the end alongside them, but Invader was also jogging. The mile and a-half took 3.28 2-5, the last half 1.7 3-5. Anseline worked a couple of miles at a 2.25 gait.

The Shrew (Head) jumped away in front of Warplane (Shaw) and led*him throughout a mile. Warplane being driven right out with no chance of getting to The Shrew, who went particularly well.

Billy Carbine gave a good exhibition of trotting in the work allotted him.

Cardinal Logan went a mile and a-half, but not in such good time as he registered on Saturday. The horse is very well, and has gained a lot of admirers for the Cup.

Peter G rattan (McMahon) went a mile and a-half alone in fair time, but he would have done better had there been something with him.

Kempton, who knocked one of his knees a couple of days ago, trotted solidly when going two miles alone. His best half was 2.9 1-5.

Bankhead (Bryce) stepped off at the mile and a-quarter, although it was only over the last half that the pace was reallv on.

The Tartar (Robertson) and Peter McKinney (Turner) were to go two miles together, but after going a good half mile The Tartar broke up badly and settled the workout. With Peter Mc-Kinncy he afterwards ran another half, both trotting solid and fast.

Wharepiana (Edwards) worked freelegged over two miles, in useful time, without the hopples.

Free Advice (J. Bryce) 6tood Evelyn Locanda (A. Bryce) up a couple of lengths start over a mile and a-half, and the pair were together at the end.

Many others wore out, but none of them were asked to go at top.

Two Cup candidates, in Prince Pointer and Peterwah. were taken out to Otahnliit to work on the grass.

FOR PICNICKERS. "^^

Those who go picnicking to-morrow instead of ]>atronisinff Alexandra Park will spend a few shillings in boat or car faros, and it would be nice to return home and find that the day had not been too costly because a small bet on the trots had "landed" and paid expenses. There will be plenty looking for something to keep an interest in the meeting, and if they glance through the programme they will see that Evelyn Locanda is in the Grandstand Handicap.
