ROTORUA NOTES.

Mr. and Mrs. D. Jervis, Ranolf Street, are on a visit to Wellington.

Miss Cora Moore has left on a motor tour to the Wellington district.

Mr. and Mrs. Mclsaae and family, Pukaki Street, are spending a holiday at Ohope Beach, Whakatane.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Steele and family are spending the Christmas holidays at Mount Maunganui.

Mr. and Mrs. Bell, Ann Street, have left on a holiday to Christchurch and Timaru.

Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Hockly, and Misses K. and J. Hockly, have left for Takapuna, where they will spend the summer holidays. They intend residing in Auckland.

A few of the girl friends of Miss C. Bell, who is leaving shortly for Sydney, entertained her at a farewell afternoon tea on Thursday afternoon. Miss Margaret Sloane presented the guest of honour with a handsome travelling outfit, as a token of affection and remembrance. Among those present were: Misses C. Bell, M. Sloane, M. Bertram, •T. Buddie, J. Tucker, J. Barber, C. Sharpe, S. Wilson, W. Steele, A. Worrall.

On Saturday evening Miss C. Bell entertained a number of friends to a picture party at the Majestic Theatre, and afterwards at supper at the Majestic tearooms. The guests present were: Mrs. H. A. Bell, Misses C. Bell, J. Buddie, J. Tucker, C. Sharpe, G. Hill, S. Wilson, M. Bertram, M. Sloane, G. Sloane, J. Barber, T. Johnson, W. Steele, P. Ryder, K. Bell, G. Beale.

On Friday Mr. and Mrs. L. Blackwood entertained the patients from the Sanatorium at afternoon tea at their residence, Fenton Street, when a most enjoyable time was spent by those present. Before returning to the Sanatorium the patients thanked Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood for the delightful after- | noon, and gave three hearty cheers, and sang "For They are Jolly Good Fellows," and all joined in singing "Auld Lang Syne."

For the first time in Rotorua, the! Nativity play was acted on Thursday evening, in St. Luke's Parish Hall, under the directorship of the Rev. J. W. Burley, Mrs. Burley and Miss M. Mactier. There was a large and appreciative audience, and each tableau was well carried out. The last scene showed the Virgin, Joseph and Elizabeth, grouped at the head of the manger, with kings, shepherds, Gabriel and angels. The audience and choir sang, ''Through all the Changing Scenes of Life." The National Anthem was then sung as a special prayer. All the acting and tableaux were done with wonderful reverence, and all who witnessed the performance must have gone away with a deeper feeling as to the true meaning of Christmas.

The annual Christmas tree, held at King George V. Hospital for the children patients, and organised by the Rotorua Sunshine League, took place in the recreation room on Friday after-

noon, the decorations being streamers of purple and gold, and in the centre a lovely heavily laden Christmas tree. Santa Claus arrived at 2.30 accompanied

by a troupe of children in fancy costumes, who gave a number of fancy dances during the afternoon. Solo dances were also given by Miss Joan Urquhart. While Santa Clans was_ presenting the patients with the presents, ice creams and cakes were served by Mrs. J. Halkett, Mrs. C. Hitchcock, Mrs. Blencowe and Miss A. French. Mrs. Wallace Richards played a number of musical items. Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P., who was accompanied by Mrs. Clinkard, in a short speech wished all the patients the compliments of the season. At the conclusion, the National Anthem was sung and the patients gave three cheers for the Sunshine League.
