BURGLAR STEALS SAFE.
CAR SALESMAN ARRESTED.
FINGER-PRINT EVIDENCE.
BENCH REFUSES BAIL.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
PALMERSTON N., this day,
During the last week-end the premises of Mr. Christie, tobacconist, of Rangitikei Street, were broken into and the safe, containing a considerable sum of money was removed, in addition to a large quantity of stock. This morning Detective Barling arrested James Morton McGill, aged 26, a car salesman, residing at Dannevirke, who was charged with breaking and entering the premises and removing a safe containing £40 in cash and £23 in cheques. On accused being remanded to December 14, his counsel applied for bail, which Senior-Detective Quirke opposed. The safe, he said, had not yet been traced. The principal evidence against accused at present was finger prints found on the premises. The Bench refused bail.
