PETITION POSSIBLE.
AGAINST HOW. J. A. YOUNG.
STATEMENT BY MR. LYE.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. It has been stated that Mr. S. C. G. Lye, United candidate for Hamilton, intends to lodge a petition against the re-election of the Hon. J. A. Young for Hamilton. Mr. Lye denies that he is associated with any petition to unseat Mr. Young. It is untrue that he has consulted a solicitor in Auckland on the matter. His campaign committee may be investigating alleged breaches of the electoral law by Mr. Young, but he (Mr. Lye) has refused to have anything to do with it.
Mr. Young's majority on election night was 733. A petition must be lodged within 28 days of the declaration of the poll and security must be given for £200 for the payment of costs, charges and expenses. It is provided that an election petition shall he heard before two judges of the Supreme Court to be named by the Chief Justice, and the hearing must take place in the district in which the petition has arisen.
