CHICAGO, November 20. Overflowing rivers are spreading death and destruction in five States. Last evening , the Mississippi was breaking its banks along the borders of Illinois and Missouri.
An unprecedented fall of rain brought Kentucky and Illinois into the flood area as Kansas and Oklahoma were slowly beginning to recover from the most disastrous November flood on record. The damage to property already is estimated at more than £2,000,000. Seventeen persons are known to be dead. Numerous families are homeless and cold and snow are adding to their misery. Not only the Mississippi, but the Missouri and Grand Rivers are breaking down their levees and the flood waters are inundating thousands of acres of farm hind and drowning people and livestock. Highways and railways are blocked or destroyed.
