HOMES ENDANGERED.

Sydney Bush Fires Widespread

And Menacing.

GALE PANS FLAMES.

SYDNEY, November 8.

The heat wave continues in Sydney. The bush fires are widespread and many homes are endangered. Women are specially prominent in saving the homesteads. Eight cottages were destroyed in the Mittagong district. Parties of 300 firefighters were engaged all night long trying to beat the flames off the town. A strong westerly gale scattered the sparks everywhere, especially in the Blue Mountain district, where miles cf country were swept by the flames. The bush fires have interrupted telegraphic communication with the country districts.
