AUCKLAND ROTARY CLUB.
TO-DAYS MEETING. The fortnightly lunch meeting of the Auckland Rotary Club, held in the Lewis Eady Concert Hall to-day, was well attended, the president, Mr. Geo. W. Hutchison, In the cnair. Amongst visitors were: Messrs. J. Campbell (Inverness), K. W. Ford (Maitland, South Australia;, and Duncan Campbell (Oshawa). Mr. Duncan Campbell conveyed felicitations from the Rotary Club of that city. The president mentioned that the next district conference would be held in Christchurch from February 27 to March 3. w Captain W. J. Wade, M.8.E., of Sydney, representative of the Port of Wellington, was allotted a few minutes in which to address flhembers. The speaker referred to the fact that the Manchester Canal, with associated equipment, had cost the port authorities £20,000,000 in providing shipping facilities for British trade. He said it was now third in importance after London and Liverpool amongst British ports. He advocated that a greater proportion of the shipments intended for the dense population living north of Birmingha msjhould be shipped direct to Manchester. A letter was read from Mr. John Tucker, of Sydney, in connection with the 1919 world tour of young Australians, asking that he be put into communication with the parents of six or eight New Zealand lads who might wisn to join the tour. A vocal solo was contributed by Mr. W. Jones, the accompaniment beings played by Rotarian Maughan Barnett. The speaker of the day was Major J. A. C. Cooper, who delivered an address on 'Aviation."
