FLOODED AREAS.

MANAWATU RIVER FALLING.

RAILWAY LINE CLEAR.

TRAIXS RESUME RUXXIXG

(B7 Telegraph—Press Association.)

PALMERSTOX X., this day.

The flood waters in the Manawatu district, between Tiakiahuna and Rangiotu are now abating. Had the Oroua River burst its banks higher up there would have been a disastrous and unprecedented flood covering the whole of the Kairanga district. Stopbanks constructed after the flood of two years ago, held, thus a%*erting an overflow. The railway line through the gorge is now clear. Trains resumed running this morning. Between 5000 and 10,000 acres of farm lands were inuundated by the flood, which has ruined spring pasture and caused farmers severe loss and set-back. The latest reports are that the flood is still receding, but it will be some days before Rangiotu district is clear.
