ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
BUSES IN QUEEN STEET.
OLD QUESTION REVIVED.
GUI JAMES GUNSON'S ACTION
LABOUR CANDIDATE'S REMINDER
Tlie Reform cnndidate for Auckland gpburbs hud in thia election campaign an anxiety to have suburban fcuses rim right down Queen Street, wjd Mr. Jr. (J. R. Mason, Labour candidate, speaking at Avondale South. Sir James Gun.'on had said that he had had nothing to do with the origin of the transport problem. Mr. Mason reminded liis bearers that the transport problem arose with the ordering of buses out of tho bottom of Queen Street by the Inform candidate, when he was Mayor of Auckland. That action was alleged by Mr. Mason to be inconsistent with the Reform candidate's present declaration-*. This statement by Mr. Mason seemed in offend tho susceptibility of a City Councillor present, and, at question time, he stated that it was only by reason of the congestion of traffic that tlie buses had been prohibited, under a by-law upheld in the Supreme Court. Mr. Mason: When a passenger desires to ride in a bus, and finds himself prohibited by a man who says he believes! in no prohibition whatever, it is no consolation to the passenger to be told that the authority for the prohibition is not the Motor Omnibus Act, but City Council by-laws! The applause which greeted Mr. Mason's reply seemed to indicate that in Avondale South the memory of transport trouble is still vivid in the minds of the people. At the close of the meetir.g a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence in Mr. Mason was passed.
