TROTTING.

QUIET MORNING AT EPSOM, i

Although conditions were ideal at Epsobi this morning, there was very little work done, and trainers were content to give their teams jogging work only.

Gold Jacket was pottering about without the straps on. This horse is a picture at present, and should be a worthy representative of the locals in the Auckland Cup.

The sale of Jackie Audubon was expected, but it was thought the buyer would be the Auckland owner, Mr. Moodabe. It transpires that Mr. Murphy, of Wellington, is the buyer, and the Great Audubon pacer will join J. Shaw's team.

W. Head was present at the track this morning working his pair, The Shrew and Raima. The Shrew is looking a better mare than when she raced at the Auckland fixture. Raima is one of the solid trotters, and is able to pick up the money at Otahithu.

The imposing of a limit at both ends of the Introductory trots at the Otahuhu meeting is keeping out a lot of horses who would otherwise have been nominated. Etta Cole, Anseline, and Amberite are among the number.

R. Millen has taken the veteran Wimmera King in hand again. The old gelding has a hard task in front of him if he is to win any more races.

A filly by Blue Mountain King, out of the dam of Dick Dillon, is being given light work by J. McKendrick. She is one of the nicest fillies at headquarters, and gives every indication of possessing a rare turn of speed. The same trainer is also pottering about with a colt by Al Mack. He is a solid and level-headed sort, but it will be a few weeks yet before he is asked to sprint quarters.

F. Gilchrist had Etta Cole on the track this morning, and .allowed her to stride along comfortably over a mile and a-half She is looking better every week, and promises to reach the best society by the end of the season. Gilchrist has just taken in hand the disappointing Direct Action, who was in the paddock up till a week ago. .Several trainers have had Direct Action, and could do no good with the erratic gelding, and Gilchrist has no easy job in front of him to get the gelding to go a good race. The same trainer could have had Nelson Tasker to train, but he had no room at the stables.

Beyond being a little sore, S. Selkirk was none the worse for the fall he re ceived when Nihilist Junior broke his back yesterday morning on the track Selkirk was driving horses this morning Trustworthy has not done much since she raced at the Auckland meeting She was jogging this morning without the When pulled up after racing on the second day of the Auckland* meeting Loch Moigh was very lame, but he ha? evidently pulled round, because he is in nxtu?e inCll>al handica P s at the Otahuhu Mr. Geo.
