FERTILISER FREIGHTS.
CONCESSION TO TOKOROA.
SUBSIDY FOR TWO YEARS.
PUTARURU, Thursday,
Mr. F. F. Hockly, Reform candidate for Rotorua, announced at Tokoroa last night that the Government had decided that the Department of Agriculture would subsidise for the next two seasons fertiliser freight rates on the Taupo Totara Timber Company's line from Putaruru to Tokoroa to the extent of providing half the difference necessary to give through freights. A condition was laid down that the company remitted the other half, and the company, had agreed.
In explanation Mr. Hockly said the present rates from the Otahuhu works to Putaruru on manures were 9/3 a ton for six-ton lots and 11/7 for one-ton lots, while from Putaruru to Tokoroa the rate was 11/1 a ton. The concession meant that the through freight from Otahuhu to Tokoroa would be 9/10 a ton for six-ton lots and 12/3 a ton for one-ton lots, a saving of over 10/ per ton. L
I The speaker continued that he was. I gratified, but not satisfied, as nothing had been done for exports from Tokoroa cheese factory. In his opinion the solution was in the Government obtaining running rights over the line, so that standard stock could travel to the 19mile peg. ..." ■--■■■■---..
