GALE IN WELLINGTON.

WAVES BREAK OVER TRAIN.

WATER THROUGH VENTILATORS.

COASTAL SHIPS SHELTERING. (By Telegraph.—Prate Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A double-centred cyclone, dominating the whole of New Zealand, is responsible for unseasonable weather. Wellington has been in the throes of it for three days, with a southerly gale and heavy rains.

The Hntt river is running very high, and much low-lying land is under water. No slips of any magnitude have occurred, but minor ones have been reported and in several localities weak spots are being watched.

Several coastal vessels have been forced to seek shelter, and difficulty has been experienced in berthing others. Eastbourne people have been tossed about in the ferry steamers.

The Hutt railway line gave officials anxiety this morning. Minor washouts have occurred, and as a precaution trains lure being run on the inner line. The wave* this morning broke right over the carriages, and water poured through the ventilators.
