ROTORUA NOTES.

Mr. and Mrs. John Kissling, who have been staying in Rotorua, have returned to Mangere. Mrs. W. A. McLean and Miss M. McLean, Lytton Street, have returned to Rotorua from a holiday in the South Island. Mrs. Gray, who has been staying in Rotorua, has left for Taupo and Napier.

A delightful flag bridge evening was held at the Anza Tearooms on Friday evening, the guests of honour being Mr. Arthur Rees-George and Mr. Frank Grove. Fancy paper hats added to the attractive decorations of shaded golden streamers, with the supper tables arranged with Iceland poppies of the same shades. The prize-winners were: Mrs. S. W. Wallis, Miss D. Corlett and Mr. A. Rees-George, first; Mrs. L. Dingle, Miss P. St. Clair and Mr. D. George, the consolation. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Bunyard, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Goudie, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. P. Hall, Mr. and Mrs. D. George, Mrs. Grove, sen., Mr. and Mrs. L. Dingle, Dr. and Mrs. S. W. Wallis, Mrs. A. G. Holland, Mr. and Mrs. Moore-Jones, Mα - . and Mrs. C. The patients at the Rotorua Sanatorium were entertained at a concert arranged by members of the Kotorua Women's Club in the recreation room of the sanatorium. Enjoyable items were given by Mrs. George "Steele, Misses T. Johnson, Phyllis Galbraith and Mr. Hodgson, recitations and musical monologues; Mrs. Winslade, sen., and Mrs. Wallace Richards, vocal solos; Miss Elsie Winslade, pianoforte solos; and a demonstration of signalling by the Girl Guides. Mrs. W. Richards arid Miss E. Winslade were the accompanists. After a dainty supper had been served by members of the Women's Club- the singing of the National Anthem brought a very happy evening to a close.

A most successful and enjoyable poster fancy dress ball and progressive 500 tournament was held in connection with the Rotorua carnival shopping week at the Peerless Hall on Wednesday evening, when there was a crowded attendance, and the energetic committee (Mesdames T. Kelly, D. Williams, D. Steele, Messrs. J. Higgins and W. A. McLean) were untiring in their efforts to make the evening such a success. Delightful music was played for the dances by the K. Boys' Orchestra, and several novelty dances added to the evening's enjoyment. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. Saraty. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr. W. A. McLean. The judges of the costumes were the Mavoress, Mrs. J. N. McLean and Mrs. W. L. who awarded the prizes to Miss C. Knowles, as "Minties," and Miss M. Downey, as "Coleman's Coiner Shop," both first; Miss B. Wihau, as a Hawaiian, first for the best ladies' costume; Mr. Sharp, as jazz pierrot, first for the best gentlemen's costume. The few others present in fancy costume were: Miss Shalfoon, representing Saratys; Miss R. Ballock, as Fry's chocolate; Miss Jones, green pierrette; Mr. Hoganr, black and white pierrot. The card tournament was supervised by Mr. A. De Luen and prizes were won by Mrs. A. Carnachan 1, Mis. Weeks 2, for the ladies; Miss Sanders 1, Mrs. Smith 2, who both played as men, for the gentlemen.
