HAURAKI ELECTORATE.
MR. ALLAN AT EAST TAMAKX
The United party's candidate for Haurakij Mr. Ebenezer Allan, had another successful meeting last evening at East Tamaki. Mr. F. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, presided, and spoke of the candidate in very high terms. Mr. Allan spoke along the lines of previous addresses, particularly stressing the high cost of Government under Reform, mentioning that there was on foot a movement to increase the salaries of M.P.'s. He thought the pre. sent amount was quite enough, and advocated a reduction of thirty in the number of members. Fifty would do th« job much better than eighty. He was in favour of an elective Upper House of eighteen members, four elected by the farmers, four by labour, four by the business men, four by the professional men and two only by the Government.
A number of questions were asked and answered in the candidate's usual straight manner. Mr. Allan was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. $'
