A CHEERFUL CANDIDATE.
SMILE DISARMS HECKLERS.
MR. DICKSON AT GREEN LAXE,
There was a good attendance at the Green Lane Picture Theatre last night to hear an address by Mr. J. S. Dickson, Reform candidate for Parnell. The chair was taken by Mr. J. F. W. Dickson. The attitude adopted by some men in the gallery from the outset of the meeting 'showed , that they were tired of politics, and wanted fun. The chairman had scarcely started to Introduce the speaker before a voice from the "gods" declared: "It was the other Dickson we came ta hear."
They did hear him shortly afterwards. There is no fun in heckling a candidate who wears a genial smile as if he were also enjoying the fun, and after about a quarter of an hour Mr. Dickson wae accorded an attentive hearing. The speaker devoted some time to criticism of the United party. Mr. Dickson said all the Reform 'party wanted was fair criticism, not bluff. He expressed pleasure that the Auckland people had voted in favour of the Transport Board, as that body when it got to work would provide work for about 300 men.
A motion of thanks and confidence was moved, also an amendment of thanks only. Upon the vote being taken on the voices, the chairman declared the motion carried.
