A week-end excursion to Kawau Island by three teachers from the Diocesan High School terminated abruptly on Saturday, when a serious accident befell Miss Ada-Vera Hay, a member of the party, through a fall over a cliff, j The injured woman was brought by I launch to Auckland, where she lies in a private hospital suffering from head injuries. Miss Hay is science mistress at the Diocesan High School, and a daughcer of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Hay, of 108 Grafton Road. She is popularly known for her association with the Auckland Girls' Athletic Asociation, of which she is secretary. First news of the accident reached Warkworth, which received a wireless message from Kawau, asking for the services of a doctor. Dr. K. Dean set out shortly after noon for the island, and reached there by 1.30 o'clock, and by 8 o'clock Miss Hay had been taken to hospital.

Accompanied by Misses G. B. Desmond and M. Searle, Miss Hay arrived at Kawau on Friday, and it was the intention of the little party to remain there till Tuesday. Shortly after 11 o'clock on Saturday, however, Miss Hay slipped and fell down the face of a cliff on to the beach, while she and her companions were negotiating a path that led to it. It was impossible to remove the young woman, who was unconscious, except from the water, so Miss Desmond proceeded to the Mansion House to secure assistance. Mr. Allan Pavitt's launch was commissioned, and, by this means, Miss Hay was transported to the Mansion House, where Dr. Dean ordered her immediate removal to hospital! Mr. Pavitt's ■ launch was again used to bring Miss Hay to Auckland, the city beong reached at 7-30o'cloek.
