SYDNEY FERRY DISASTER.

GALLANTRY RECOGNISED.

MEDAL FOR NEW ZEALANDER.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WANGANUI, this day.

The Royal Shipwreck Relief and Humane Society, New South Wales, held a big demonstration recently in the Sydney Town Hall, when medals and certificates awarded during the year were presented.

Among the medals awarded was one gold medal to a young lady, who swam to the assistance of a man who was attacked by a shark. A silver medal was presented to Mr. "Curly" Jones, one of the heroes of the Tahiti-Greycliffe disaster on November 3.

Mr. Fred. A. Corby, of Wanganui, was also to have received a silver medal and a framed certificate at this function. Corby, who was a fireman on the Tahiti, dived off and was instrumental in saving several lives. He was out of New Zealand when a letter arrived offering to pay his expenses to Sydney and back. The certificate and medal have since been forwarded to him. The certificate is inscribed: "Royal Shipwreck Relief and Humane Society of New South Wales. Awarded to F. A. Corby, for saving life, Tahiti-Greycliffe disaster, November 3, 1927."

, Mr. Corby was recently married in Wellington to Miss R. Southbridee, of Wellington.
