BURNING MIDNIGHT "JUICE."
WHEN WELLINGTON SAT UP.
Proof that Wellington sat up very late last Saturday night, listening to the broadcast account of the progress of the Southern Cross over the Tasman, is giten by a comparison of power load graphs kept by the City Electricity Department (sayß the "Post"). As compared with the demand of the previous Saturday night, the consumption of power was the best part of 1000 kilowatts higher at midnight, and remained far,'above the normal figure until 2 a.m. Apparently a good many listeners gave it up then, but the figure was still high above normal till just on 4 o'clock on Sunday > morning, when news came through that the machine had landed. The drop on the graph at this hourjs abrupt; everyone -turned off sets - and lights and toddled off to bed.
