Walnai Mile To King Midas. Radiate's Hurdles.Admiral Drake Smartest Youngster.
TRENTHAM, this day. Though windy, the weather is fine and there is a large .attendance for the opening_ of the Wellington Racing Club's spring meeting. The track is in tiptop* condition.
!-, Radiate, - who was second . lay well back early in the hurdles, but came with a well-timed runjit the fini«T» to cut. out Pantagruel, wlo had been prominent throughout Askari led to the last fence, but then fell back. Vexatious was only a fair fourth, and the favourite," Polyphemus, was never: dangerous. • \ Admiral Drake: and. Head Serang, the two Hawke's Bay representatives, and both-by Chief Ruler, paid the. dividends in the two-year-old handicap, staying on better than , their Opponents. Clever, 'Sapient, Royal Line, Tobaccoland, and Valpre were the early leaders, but they all stopped over the last furlong, and Clever was only fourth. Admiral Drake paid double figures, the favourites being Clever, Equitant, and Head Serang. Battle . Colours was favourite for the Open Mile, but failed badly. He did not get away , well, ran up on the turn, and in the straight he died right away, his performance being most disappointing. Vigilance made all the running, and led into the straight > from Chelone, . Royal Game and Partaga. In the straight King Midas came through and won by a length and a-half from Partaga, who beat Vigilance by three lengths. Solrose and Kilmiss were handy, but the bunch finished well back. King Midas also paid double figures. ' , Detailed results:— FIRST HtJRDLES of 330bovs. One mile and 2 —RADIATE, b g, aged, By. Polydamon—Bleriot (Mr. O. L.
