LONDON, October 19.

Commander H. C. Macdonald, who left St. Johns, Newfoundland, on Wednesday at 1.21 p.m. in a Gipsy Moth aeroplane on an attempted flight across the Atlantic, is missing.

A British official wireless message states that it is believed that on a general estimate Commander Macdonald's fuel supply will by now |iave been exhausted, and it is feared he is lost.

The last news heard of the airman was contained in a message received by the British Air Ministry on Thursday. This was to the effect that his 'plane had been sighted from the Dutch steamer Hardenberg at 12.30 a.m. that day about 600 miles from St. Johns.

It is estimated that Macdonald's petrol supply would be exhausted at 4 a.m. to-day. Up to two hours before that time there was no sign of him and anxiety is growing.

, Mrs. Macdonald broke down for the first time on Thursday night when the second wireless bulletin mentioned that there was still no news of her husband. She was persuaded to retire to bed, but would not abandon hope and lay there sleepless.
