SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The members of the Dominion Road Bowling Club gave a flag "600" evening on Thursday, and a happy time was . spent. The largest number of flags were won by Mrs. Cannon, Miss McDonald, and Mr. Robinson, consolation prizes going to Mr. and Mrs. Percy and Mrs. Winks. Among the players were: Mr. and Mrs. W. Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Taylor gave an awning at their home at "Homelands," Mount Albert Road, on Wednesday, in honour of the coming of age of their eon. Mrs. Taylor met the guests dressed in blade crepe de chine, with an overskirt of lace and shoulder posy. Among those present were: Mrs. Elliott, in blue crepe de chine; Miss Webster, mauve crepe de chine with lace; Miss Hearne, black panne velvet with diamante; Miss Hulme, floral georgette; Miss Ethel Latta, maroon velvet; Miss Florrie Latta, blue velvet; Miss Hughes, lemon chenille; Miss Rich, blush pink taffeta; Miss \Voolley, shot taffeta with uneven hem; tad Miss Stone, sea green georgette. I The Glen Eden Public Hall presented a pretty picture last night on the occasion of the Glen Eden Tennis Club's first annual ball. Decorated with many streamers forming a network of colour against the ceiling, and strings of multi-coloured balloons, the Symondsville Studio Cabaret made a gay setting for the twenty-first birthday celebrations of Miss Gladys Grayson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Arthur Grayson, of Abbotts Road, Mount Eden, last evening. Downstairs, the supper tables were attractively arranged with vases of gold Iceland poppies and greenery. On Thursday evening the Papakura Indies' Hockey dub and the Papakura Football Club held a combined ball in the Paragon Theatre. Notwithstanding the indement weather there was a very satisfactory attendance. The hall and! supper room were tastefully decorated with a profusion of flowers. During the evening a presentation was made of two gold medals given to the club by Mr. and Mrs. Thwaites for the most consistent junior and senior player last season. On Wednesday evening an enjoyable dance for young people was given by Mr. and Mrs. Andrew M. Paterson, in honour of their daughter, Reka, at their residence, Remuera Road. The vestibule lounge and dining rooms were prettily arranged with quantities Of spring flowers and foliage plants. Their spacious ballroom was artistically decorated with flags and streamers, making a very gay scene. Dancing to the strains of excellent music was enjoyed by about forty couples. Chinese lanterns were hung among the trees in the garden, which gave an Oriental appearance to the grounds. A dainty supper was served in the loggia; large bowls of sweet peas and pale pink stocks were arranged on the supper tables, and from the ceiling hung brightly coloured Chinese lanterns. There were many happy faces at the Penrith Tearooms last evening when a social evening was Held by the passengers and descendants of those who came out' in tlie barque May Queen fifty years ago. The rooms were brightly decorated and on the rapper tables golden and yellow iceland poppies were artistically arranged** The evening was pleasantly passed with dancing, a programme of musical items and the exchanging of reminiscences of the good old days.
