MISSING BOOTS.
V He is a confirmed drunkard and has been here 108 times," said Chief Detective Hammond in regard to Edward Knox (52), who was charged with stealing two pairs of boots, valued at 30/. In reply to evidence by a detective and a constable that the boots found in liis possession were stolen property, accused produced a statement explaining that he had been endeavouring to sell them, and was not aware that they had been stolen. Mr. Hunt, S.M.: This is your story, is it?— Yes.
" Well, I don't believe it." Chief Detcctive Hammond produced accuseds list. Mr. Hunt (perusing the list): He has been here eight times this year. Mr. Hammond: All for drunkenness. He is not a thief. Accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. SUNDAY TRADING. Fines for Sunday trading were imposed on the following:—H. Ward, £2; H. Bromwich, C. Edser, A. 8. Rowlatt, £1 each. G. G. C. Lewis was Convicted and ordered to pay costs for having an unlicensed radio set.
