CITY CLUB,

There -was a jrood attendance at the first annual meeting of the City Cricket Club. Mr. G. R. Metcalfe presided in the absence of the president, who was unable to attend. The report and balancesheet showed the club to have had a very successful season and also to be clear of debt. The best batting and bowling averages for the season were gained by J. Harrison and A. Le Compte respectively, and a bat was presented to each, the trophies having been donated to the club by the coach (Mr. Harry Granger).

The clnb will again hare the services of Mr. H. Granger as coach for the season, and it was decided to nominate a second grade team in the competitions. A niunber of new members were enrolled and the prospects for the club for the coming season are bright.

HOWICK CLUB.

Howick Club will play Maungakiekie Club on Labour Day. Recently the following officers were appointed Club captain* Mr. Waring; vice-president. Mr. J. A. Kyd; selection committee, Messrs, Kyd, Waring, and Hasllp. The club is endeavouring to arrange for all-day matches with city teams and neighbouring country teams.

PROBLEM OF HOURS.

WELLINGTON, this day.

Soma discussion occurred at laat night's meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association, when a motion that the hours of play be 2 p.m. till 6.30, during October and March, and 7 p.m. for November to February inclusive, was put before the meeting. Several members declared that four and a-half hours' cricket was quite enough, and that'any further gjpy tended to become monotonous. It was also contended it would impose hardship on the younger playere. A member said although he did not approve of any extended playing time, that did not mean he was opposed to daylight saving. After further discussion Mr. W. McKenzie moved that the motion be put.

Tihe chairman demurred, and asked for others to voice their opinions. He repeated his motion, which was seconded by someone, who eaid he wanted to get away. The balance of voices wa« in favour of the motion, which wae declared carried on a show of hands.

M.C.C. TEAM'S VISIT.

DIFFICULTY OF SECURING A TEAM.

CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday.

At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council a letter was received from the council's representative in London, Mr. A. Sims, acknowledging his authorisation to enter into negotiation! with the M.C.C. to •end a team to New Zealand daring the 1028-80 season. He aaid that the «oMtloa of sending teams was becoming a serlons one, as there was great difficulty Jo getting a soluble captain willing to go, and In getting good amateurs to go away for so long. He had sent an invitation, and felt snre they would do their best to- accept it. Probably the matter would not be dealt with lii'fore December. Mr. A. B.
