IMPROVEMENT CONTINUES.
COMPARATIVE RETURNS.

WELLINGTON, Thursday.
The Railway Department's net earnings amounted to £42,080 in the four weeks which ended on September 15. In the corresponding period of 1927 the amount was £34,396, and in 1926, £48,056. The gross revenue from all sources was £564,836, an increase of £28,362, while expenses £522,756, were £20,678 higher.
The working profit for the 24 weeks of the current financial year is £7458 less than the profit in the corresponding period last year. The position in the last sixteen weeks has improved considerably. 1 '' v
