(Australian and 3J.Z. Press Association.) * (.Received 11 a.m.)

VANCOUVER, October 17.

Mr. Stuart F. Doyle, of the Union Theatres, Sydney, is aboard the Aorangi, en route for Australia, after his. Sew -York trip. He came to look over the new talking "movies" and bought 20 ! .complete installations at a cost of £50G0 each. These will be installed as fast as possible in Australia. Sir. Doyle says the Australians are not struck with the British films, which he considers are not equal' to American.

Union Theatres, Ltd., of which Mr. Doyle is managing director, is the largest picture enterprise in the Commonwealth, and also possesses interests in New Zealand. Opinion locally regarding the future

of the "talkies" is sharply divided, though there is, in certain circles, talk of installa-

tions in the Dominion. The final decision _ "will certainly rest on actual experience after the instaDation of the sets in Australia and in the light of popular reception of the innovation throughout the world, notably in Britain.
